We are a bilingual Catalan-Spanish family (Imma- ♀-1959; Josep-Miquel-♂-1957; Lídia-♀-1994 and Guim-♂-1996) living in a rural area of Catalonia.. For many years we’ve been involved in Peace movement (SCI – VSI http://www.sciint.org) as well as NGOD both as a volunteers and as a professionals. We used to live in Barcelona city, but since 1994, we live in a very small village away from the “urban” way of life, 120 Km North of Barcelona city and close to the Pyrenees and the French border. You can have a look at our place and home visiting http://caltothom.inchcolm.org and http://lanou.bergueda.org. Intercultural issues, peace and globalization are ones of our main concerns, that’s why we’re Servas hosts since 1994 Although she has a degree on Geology, Imma works from home as a self employee in the field of Education, giving workshops and lectures to all range of ages students related with Citizenship, Peace, Development Education and India, a country she loves and where she studied and lived in the 80’s. She works for several councils, public institutions, NGOs and Universities Among others she works for the Asia House of Spain http://www.casaasia.net, where she’s the coordinator of its intercultural programme. Together with Josep-Miquel and some colleagues/friends she’s member of Irenia peace games (www.irenia.net), a group of teachers that give workshops on those topics mentioned before. She also lived in Britain Apart from English, she also speaks French. Josep-Miquel studied Physics at the University, but for many years worked in an NGOD, dealing mainly with development projects in Latin American countries, and as a Secondary School teacher in Sciences and Maths and in a local consortia running VET (vocational education training) and local development projects http://www.parcfluvial.cat) He likes languages and can manage fluently in English, French and Italian. He speaks some German and Portuguese too. Nowadays he’s also self-employee, giving workshops and coordinating Irenia peacegames Lídia&Guim, like other teenagers of their age, are interested in sports (swimming, basketball), computers games, pop music, etc. They are very friendly and used to share their time with children from other countries. Lídia also studies flute whereas Guim loves drums. They understand quite a lot of English because some years ago we spent some months in Britain where they attended a Primary School and also because we receive travellers and foreign friends at home. Lidia will spend the 2009-2010 scholar year in Denmark through AFS We enjoy planning & doing things together and always try to reach consensus when we have to take important decisions. We also love travelling, but visiting any country without meeting its people is, for us, simply unthinkable, that’s why we joined Servas many years ago and we receive Servas travellers several times every year. Since we come from the metropolitan area of Barcelona, most of our friends and relatives live there and some weekends we go there, but also we receive friends at home, since the house is big and in a very nice and quiet place So what: fancy to come?
Cheers
